RIGHT ON RED CASUES SAFETY CONCERNS FOR PEDESTRIANS IN CROSSWALKS

Bruce Fontaine

CONNECTICUT

In the state of Connecticut, drivers allowed to make a right on red when they have a red light on their side of a four-way intersection. This causes an issue with safety when a pedestrian has an active walk signal to cross to the opposite corner.
Drivers often look left for oncoming traffic, so they can make a safe right onto the same road as the approaching motor vehicle. They are unaware a possible pedestrian crossing the road to their right.
